In the spring of 2017 Ivan Kirichenko, musician of Lyudi-na-ldu (People on Ice) project, invited us to participate in the drone compilation on "The Day of Life Forgotten" label. From this idea, the album "Fire in Brake" was born. April 11, we came up with a plan for improvisation and the next day recorded a half-hour track. The material turned out to be versatile and in some pieces far from the set task. It was decided to release the middle part on the compilation and to publish the full version as a new album of Kshettra.
A major role in creative process were played by noise-machines of the Moscow media artist :: vtol ::. Synthesizers Garmonbozia and Oxoma laid the foundation of the second and third compositions. Drums and samples were added later. Ivan Kirichenko also recorded additional textures in his home studio. In some ways, this technology echoes the ideas of "Walk under the Moon" from the album "Five Mothers". "Fist Turns to Palm" turned out with a more traditional rhythm section and a well thought out structure. A couple of weeks after the first session, we invited Ramille Mulikov to record brass instruments there.

На них сверху дописывались ударные и сэмплы. Также дополнительные текстуры добавил в своей домашней студии Иван Кириченко. В чём-то эта технология перекликается с идеями "Walk Under the Moon" с альбома "Five Mothers". "Fist Turns to Palm" получился с более традиционной ритм-секцией и продуманной структурой. "Russian experimental duo Kshettra were commissioned to write a piece of music for the nine-hour long drone compilation for The Day of Life Forgotten record label. They started recording half an hour of music, edited it down to half its length for the compilation, but then decided to work on the full session to make it their next record Fire In Brake.

Unlike a lot of wannabe experimental music where the contributors just do stuff and wait for what’s going to happen, Fire In Brake is a half hour piece with three distinct movements that are all quite different from one another. The opener Fist Turns To Palm is at seven and a half minutes the shortest track on the album, and also the most accessible one. Its first half consists of drums, bass and bass synths, before wind instruments – saxophone, trumpet and trombone – join in during the second half, making it all sound like a downtrodden coal miners’ orchestra. As this comes rather unexpectedly, it will take you by surprise and show you that ambient drone artists are allowed to enrich their music to hitherto unknown dimension. The second track Palm Turns to Palm is at a good eleven minutes the longest movement, and in some ways also the most challenging one. Not that much is happening here, but the foundation of the song is played on the Garmonbozia synth, a noise machine invented by Russian sound artist Dmitry Morozov, also known as ::vtol::. You can find some of his performances on music video sites, and just seeing those instruments played makes you not only want to hear this track, but also see it performed. A bass synth line is rumbling threateningly underneath it all, making it sound like a dark slow-motion acid trip from the early Seventies. The concluding ten minute long Magic Mystery Fist is performed on the Oxoma synth, an even weirder machine concocted by ::vtol::, and once again you must see it to believe it. This is experimentalism at its weirdest, but the song’s second half adds a strange hip hop part that ends the album in a more rhythmic way.

Although Fire In Brake is mostly ambient and drone, the two musicians from around Moscow are smart enough to add on the one hand some more accessible moments and on the other hand truly unique instruments to transform this half hour epic into a strange bridge between the known and the uncharted. This is experimental music at its most adventurous, best enjoyed when you’re quiet all by yourself to let yourself immerse into this weird sonic universe. Not recommended to listen to while driving a car or handing heavy machinery though!"

"второй раз на этом канале упоминаются соседи справа по карте мира, на этот раз географической, а не политической. а все потому, что есть команды достойные, к которым невозможно привязать их происхождение или взгляды масс. впрочем, музыка не знает нарисованных границ.

также есть целые лейблы (и они могут не иметь имени), которые эти команды издают и дают возможность о них узнать за пределами родных городов. в особенности это важно, когда твоя уникальная группа родилась в городе Железнодорожный.

только вот имя у нее странное - Kshettra. такие названия часто резонируют с окружающим ландшафтом балашихи московской области. там мало кто знает, что с санскрита это слово переводится как "поле, площадь, участок, земля".

играет группа по собственный тегам в bandcamp от post-rock до ambient jazz. и если от первого ничего уже давно не хочется, то второе явно настроено удивить. в сочетании с живыми саксофоном, трубой, тромбоном, перкуссией, барабанами, басом картина рисуется весьма любопытная.

издает группу [the label that has no name], известный своим сотрудничеством с Dekonstruktor, The Grand Astoria и Soom. о двух последних коллективах на этих страницах уже было писано неоднократно.

последний релиз Kshettra называется 'Fire in Brake' и он ничего общего не имеет с пост-раком. а вот с джазом как раз наоборот. и этот последний релиз коллектива как раз тот случай, когда не нужен вокал - за него иногда говорит саксофон, а иногда бас.

у коллектива вообще складывается делать музыку без голоса и это редкость. ранние вещи, правда, звучат сыро, но на то они и ранние, чтобы оттачивать мастерство. релиз 2017 года отлично это демонстрирует.

на 'Fire in Brake' всего три трека, но в них важна не сколько их длительность, сколько их названия. а если их сопоставить с названием альбома, то становится понятной степень тонкости юмора у группы"
