"„Jahroom“ aus Moskau spielen eine Mischung aus Experimental-Rock und Neo-Psych. Die Tracks wirken wie Landschaftsbilder aus vergangenen Tagen. Allen haftet ein Hauch von Melancholie an. Dabei klingen sie nicht ganz so verträumt, dafür Naturverbundener. Nebelschwaden, fallendes Laub und ein paar schwache Sonnenstrahlen.

Hier wird gekonnt mit Emotionen jongliert, und immer wieder fällt ein Schimmer von Hoffnung in die Tiefen der heraufbeschworenen Melancholie-Landschaft – die Vertonung des Spiels zwischen Licht und Schatten!

Die Band spielt einen Cut nach den anderen, immer wieder anders aufgebaut, mal schneller dann wieder lockerer und leichter. Ein Soundtrack für jede Jahreszeit."

"Eleven instrumental tracks with creative titles such as “Cut-29,” “Cut-07,” “Cut-32,” etc. are what you experience on this 2016 release by Russian trio Jahroom (Alexander N. on bass, Timur D. on drums, Rasel R. on guitar). And this imaginative titling of tracks continues across all three of their albums. On Cut-Price Goods, Jahroom experiments with several interesting genres of groove-laden psychedelic / progressive improv jams. “Cut-32” opens the album with frantic bass, machine-gun drums, and metal guitar. Next is the excellent “Cut-23 featuring Konstantin Sukhan,” an inspired melodic groove that flirts with U2 ’s Joshua Tree. Then “Cut-34” envelops you in minimal harsh dissonant guitar only to be followed by “Cut-07 featuring Konstantin Sukhan” with its melodic flights of fancy that morph into dub plus some jazzy trumpet. “Cut-35” is a dark melodic jazz fusion track. And then we reach the mammoth “Cut-02 featuring Ivan Shanin,” 21 minutes of excellent psych jamming and saxophone reminding me of the obscure Australian band Cybotron. “Cut-34 featuring Anton Ponomarev” changes pace with its raucous dissonance. “Cut-21” is more groove-laden prog fusion riffing. Then “Cut-28” returns to their take on U2 over a pulsating bass and drums. “Cut-27” veers off in a new direction, punk plus a lot of tempo and mood shifts. And the album closes with “Cut-29,” 14 minutes of dub beat, grooves, phased cymbals, bass riffing, and tempo changes. There is a little bit of everything on Cut-Price Goods. If you dislike one track, you are sure to find another more to your liking."

"Wen nerven sie eigentlich nicht, diese ständigen Negativ-Nachrichten mit denen wir fast täglich gefüttert werden, wenn es um Russland geht?
Man hört darüber hinweg.
Worüber man aber auf keinen Fall hinweghören sollte, das sind JAHROOM aus Russland.
Endlich mal eine richtig gute musikalische Nachricht aus Russland!

Mit der Doppel-CD „Cut-Price Goods / Nyx“ präsentiert das russische Trio in klassischer Besetzung mit Bass, Schlagzeug und Gitarre sowie tatkräftiger Unterstützung an Saxofonen und Trompeten ein wahres Fusion-Monster und gigantischen Monolithen aus Noise, Jazz, Progressive Rock, Psyche und Metal zugleich, der sich mal in der totalen Freiform austobt und dann immer wieder nach harmonischen Melodien sucht, diese findet und dann nach und nach wieder zerpflückt.
Ganz ähnlich müssen auch KING CRIMSON oder MAGMA in den Anfängen ihrer musikalischen Sinnsuche begonnen haben, um sich dann als perfekte Musiker an ihren Instrumenten auszuleben, zu experimentieren und diesen schier unglaubliche Klänge zu entlocken.

Da scheißt man nur zu gerne bei den Instrumental-Aufnahmen auf irgendwelche unsinnigen Titelnahmen und nennt jedes Stück einfach „Cut“ und setzt eine Nummer (vielleicht nach der Reihenfolge seiner Entstehung) dahinter. Und dass man dann aus Versehen „Cut 34“ gleich zweimal mit ganz unterschiedlichen Klangvariationen auf ein Album bringt, ist doch egal. Denn die Musik zählt – und die ist schier der Wahnsinn. Ein wilder Trip durch die Gehörgänge des mutigen Hörers, der Experimentierfreudiges genauso lieben muss wie extrem Progressives und zugleich Wildes, aber auch immer wieder gerne einen Hang zur Harmonie auslebt.

Absolutes Highlight ist der 21minutige „Cut-02“ mit dem Saxofonisten IVAN SHANIN, das Jazz-Rock der allerersten Güteklasse bietet, inklusive Vogelgezwitscher und herrlich-atmosphärischen Sound-Collagen, die sich zum Ende hin zu einem Post-Jazz-Rock-Stück erheben, das mit einem perkussiven Schluss wieder zurück zu der Ruhe des vogelzwitschernden Anfangs findet.

Dieses JAHROOM-Doppel-Album wurde von dem russischen Experimentier-Label BNiL, dessen Namen man sich unbedingt merken sollte, veröffentlicht und dessen Label-Inhaber mit dieser Kurzbeschreibung an uns herangetreten ist: „Wir sind das leidenschaftliche Label BNiL aus Moskau, Russland. Wir veröffentlichen verschiedene Musikrichtungen - Stoner, Doom, Sludge, Prog, Psychedelic Rock, Ambient, Electronic, Musique Concrète, Jazz Punk, Hardrock ... und wir haben 2011 damit begonnen, total ungewöhnliche Musik zu unterstützen!“
Diesen Label-Namen sollte man sich unbedingt merken, denn wenn ein russisches Label solche Band wie JAHROOM fördert und unterstützt, indem es mit dieser Neuveröffentlichung deren ersten 2015er-Albums „Cut-Price Goods“ und ihrer ersten 2012er-EP „Nyx“ aufwartet, die im Endeffekt wie die russische Musik-Ausgabe von PANZERBALLETT aus Deutschland und ELEPHANT9 aus Norwegen – zwei wirklich großartigen Fusion-Bands – klingen, mit denen sich JAHROOM gekonnt auf eine Stufe stellen, dann ist das ein gewagter und zugleich großer Glücksgriff.

Wir jedenfalls verlieren BNiL nicht aus den Augen und werden demnächst noch mehrere Alben von ihnen besprechen. Eine echte Entdeckung aus Russland – und noch dazu ohne jegliche kaltgriegerische Lautmalereien, wie es unsere Politiker ja so gerne tun.

FAZIT: Mit JAHROOM wartet eine echte Fusion-Jazz-Rock-Prog-Psyche-Noise-Entdeckung aus Moskau auf uns, die mit diesem Doppel-Album „Cut-Price Goods / Nyx“, bestehend aus ihrem 2015er-Longplayer plus ihrer 2012er-EP, sich ganz locker auf eine Stufe mit PANZERBALLETT und ELEPHANT9 stellen."

"To Moscow (Russia not the village outside Kilmarnock) for some noise.

And by noise I mean experimental prog meets metal meets drone noise. Yup, that’s what Alexander Nenashev – bass, Timur Dzhanzakov. – drums and Rasel Rahman. – guitar are all about on this double CD reissue of their first two albums.

They mention the likes of Can, Tortoise and Burzum amongst their influences which certainly explains my experimental prog meets metal meets drone sentence up above and they certainly know how to pull off the whole light and shade thing. At times they head off into the world of psych which is something that makes ‘Cut-23’ (with bonus trumpet) so utterly alluring.

“Nyx” dates from 2012 and you can see how much better they’d got in the three years between that and “Cut-Price Goods”. The aforementioned ‘Cut-23’ is so far beyond their first offerings as to almost be on another planet. It’s an out there sound for out there people so if you want to take the chance of your head imploding as the cerebral receptors fail to recognise what’s going on, then this is the place to be."

" Anyway, Cut Priced Goods features 7 songs on CD1 and 3 on CD2. The band has several special guests on trumpet or saxophone on various tracks on CD 1 including Konstantin Sukhan on tracks 2 and 4, Ivan Shanin on track 6 and Anton Ponomarev on track 7. I had thought the music with be reggae or dub or something but they only enter into this realm a few times. The song titles are all cut 32, Cut 23 Cut 34, which I am guessing are the jam numbers.. Anyway cut 32 starts things off with a short intense track under 3mins. Cut 23 is next and a totally different almost dreamy vibe to the guitar lines. The bass reminds me a bit of Papir, maybe even some of the music. This track features a bit of trumpet but goes completely mad and free jazz like after the laid back dreamy start. Wow… that was unexpected. Cut 34 is next and a bit more like the first track, short, intense and well played. Track 4 , cut 07 features some saxophone and is the first to have a hint of reggae- dub thrown into the mix!! Cut 35 brings back back the more melodic side in this track that slowly builds up over time. Cut 02 features Ivan. It starts laid back with some nice guitar and bird sounds and then the bass and drums slowly enter. This track features a really nice guitar solo with quite some delay on it to compliment the sax which starts relaxed but then get more and more intense and then it sort of dies down to just just birds and sax but then the rest of the band slowly builds the pieces up over the next 5mins and they really go for it again at 10 mins. This track lasts 21 minutes! Cut 34 (same title as track 3) but with sax ends CD1.

CD2 only features about 15mins of music and starts with a quite intense bass driven track and a sort of post rock like guitar as it builds up. Track 2 is one of my faves of the entire lot. I just dig the push and pull of the bass and drums and the way the guitar is mixed in and played. Great stuff. Cut 27, the last track brings back the intensity! As a bonus the CD comes in a very nice full colour artwork with all the info about the band. "
